Sur pubmed je n'ai pas trouvé d'études sur la chlorella en rapport avec la chelation. Par contre, il semblerait bien que l'ail (en anglais "garlic"), et les espèces proches telles que l'ail des ours, permettent chez les rats de capter ou de se protéger du plomb ("lead" en anglais) et du cadmiun:
